PLASTIC IN OUR FOOD

根據聯合國環境署(UNEP)統計,全球每年高達約800萬噸的塑膠廢棄物流入海洋,但它們不僅在水中無處不在,也在陸地土壤中廣泛分佈,甚至最終會出現在我們吃的食物中。不知不覺中,我們幾乎每吃一口食物都會攝入微小的塑料碎片。

本設計希望透過「塑膠化食物」的可視化創意, 凸顯塑膠微粒全面入侵食物鏈之迫切性。藉由日常生活中經常食用的20種食物被塑膠滲透的意象,提醒和警示過度使用塑膠製品的切身性,使大家能更自發性地透過減量、回收和再利用,大幅減少塑膠廢棄物產生,善盡地球公民的責任。

According to the statistics of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), up to 8 million tons of plastic waste flows into the ocean every year  around the world. But they aren't just ubiquitous in water – they are spread widely in soils on land too and can even end up in the food we eat. Unwittingly, we may be consuming tiny fragments of plastic with almost every bite we take.

This design aims to raise awareness about the urgent issue of microplastics in our food chain. Through creative visualization of "plasticized food," it depicts 20 commonly consumed daily foods being penetrated by plastic. This serves as a reminder of the immediate consequences of excessive plastic product usage and encourages everyone to actively reduce, recycle, and reuse to minimize plastic waste generation. By doing so, we fulfill our responsibilities as global citizens.



▸  ISSUE   o1.塑膠汙染的現狀與趨勢
1.塑膠的危害層面有哪些?
土地 :

含氯的塑膠會釋出有害的物質到周圍的土壤、地下水或周圍的水源中。
海洋 :
塑膠原料常以塑膠珠的形式,是最常見的海洋塑膠污染來源,再加上塑膠袋和食品容器等,就是大部份海洋廢棄物的來源。
空氣 :
塑膠使用和廢棄物處理階段使用和釋放出來。空氣中已證明有微塑膠,呼吸是一條重要的暴露途徑,藉由飲食侵入我們的生活。
動物 :
動物被塑膠製品纏住或吃到塑膠製品時,其運動嚴重受限,因此補食困難,而且動物多半會死亡,甚至也會有嚴重的劃傷及潰瘍。

人類 :
塑膠中含有許多不同的化學物質,其中有些化學物質可能會被人類的皮膚吸收,進入人體內並影響免疫系統功能,甚至改變細胞基因的活性而遺害下一代。

▸   ISSUE   o1.Current status and trends of plastic pollution
1. What are the hazards of plastics?
Land :
Chlorinated plastics can release harmful substances into the surrounding soil, groundwater or surrounding water sources.
Ocean :
Plastic raw materials, often in the form of plastic beads, are the most common source of marine plastic pollution. Together with plastic bags and food containers, they are the source of most marine debris.
Air :
Plastic use and waste disposal stages use and release. It has been proven that there are microplastics in the air, breathing is an important route of exposure, and they invade our lives through diet.
Animal:
When animals are entangled in plastic products or eat plastic products, their movement is severely restricted, so it is difficult to replenish food, and most of the animals will die, and even have severe scratches and ulcers.

Humanity :
Plastic contains many different chemical substances, some of which may be absorbed by human skin, enter the human body and affect the function of the immune system, and even change the activity of cell genes and harm the next generation.



▸  ISSUE   o2.對動植物及生態環境的影響
Q:近年來越來越多海洋生態被塑膠垃圾破壞的新聞大家都很清楚海洋垃圾的問題,但除了海洋有沒有其他的自然環境被塑膠危害但卻沒有像海洋一樣得到應有的重視?

A:其實環境的破壞隨處可見,例如城市生活中最常見的冷媒造成空氣汙染問題,以及城市填海計劃等建材廢棄物、以及化學物品處理不當造成的各種汙染、或者是生活飲食造成的碳排放。
很多影響是人們在享受的過程中對於環境逐漸累積而造成有形的傷害,在互生互補的過程中找出改善方法,才會是讓你我的生活更健康以及快樂的目標。


Q:根據微塑調查,除了研究六種保育類物種外,還有哪些動植物也是長期深受微塑膠污染的問題?

A:其實日常生活中的多種蔬果類、食鹽、魚類、以及塑膠瓶裝飲料等等,其實都已經透過海洋、河流、土壤、空氣遍及世界各地無意之間入侵了我們的食物鏈。


▸  ISSUE   o2.Impact on animals, plants and ecological environment
Q: In recent years, there have been more and more news about marine ecology being damaged by plastic garbage. Everyone is well aware of the problem of marine garbage, but besides the ocean, are there other natural environments that are endangered by plastic but have not received the attention they deserve?

A: In fact, environmental damage can be seen everywhere, such as air pollution caused by the most common refrigerant in urban life, construction material waste such as urban reclamation projects, various pollution caused by improper disposal of chemicals, or carbon emissions caused by living and eating .
A lot of impact is that people gradually accumulate tangible damage to the environment in the process of enjoying. Finding ways to improve in the process of mutual complementarity will be the goal of making your life healthier and happier.


Q: According to the microplastic survey on the official website, in addition to studying the six conservation species, which animals and plants are also polluted by microplastics for a long time?

A: In fact, a variety of fruits and vegetables, salt, fish, and plastic bottled beverages in daily life have inadvertently invaded our food chain through oceans, rivers, soil, and air all over the world.
